Turot Geometrics, Silverleaf

Originally purchased in Sweden, these unusual geometric designs are from a collection called Librarie Classique de CH Delagrave- Editeurs a Paris. We believe it was published as an educational aid in the world of science and mathematics around 1884 – 1911. We have silver-leafed the negative spaces in these designs, bringing a modern yet classic approach to these abstract patterns.

We have 3 prints here and they are incredible to see!

They are set in acrylic frames as you can see in the picture below:

If you are on our email list than this morning you saw our eflyer celebrating the Chinese New Year! 2012 is the Year of the Dragon. Dragons are considered very auspicious in Chinese mythology, and held in high esteem for their dignity and power. A unique addition to any décor style, a powerful dragon represents strength, success, and protection- and is even considered the bringer of joy!

For an interesting conversation piece, find an impressive carved ornament to hang from a cabinet door, or a small dragon trivet for a candle, plant or coffee cup. A carved black dragon plate could add drama to a boring wall, and a delicate white carved plate would make a stunning table center-piece.

Carrying on with the cooking theme I found these amazingly cute Thanksgiving cookies here!

THANKSGIVING COOKIES

Ingredients:

16.5 oz pillsbury refrigerated sugar cookies
16 oz chocolate creamy frosting
Orange decorating icing
Candy corn
Black decorating gel
Miniature candy-coated chocolate baking bits

How to make thanksgiving turkey cookies for kids:
This is definitely one of the tasty thanksgiving recipes for kids that you should try for this year with your kids. Heat oven to 350°F. Bake cookies as directed on roll. Cool for about 20 minutes. Spoon chocolate frosting into resealable food-storage plastic bag. Make small hole in bottom corner of bag. On each cookie, pipe frosting on outer edge of half of cookie. Arrange candy corn over frosting for turkey feathers. Then pipe orange icing onto each cookie to resemble thanksgiving turkey face and feet. Use orange icing to attach baking bits to turkey face for eyes. Pipe black gel on baking bits for centers of eyes. Turkey cookies is ready to serve.

It's that time of year again for holiday cooking! I found this great recipe for pumpkin pie from Cooking Light. I love this magazine because they always have great new recipes to try!

CLASSIC PUMPKIN PIE

Ingredients

Filling:
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 3/4 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 (12-ounce) can evaporated low-fat milk
2 large egg whites
1 large egg
1 (15-ounce) can unsweetened pumpkin
Crust:
1/2 (15-ounce) package refrigerated pie dough (such as Pillsbury)
Cooking spray
Topping:
1/4 cup whipping cream
1 tablespoon amaretto (almond-flavored liqueur)
2 teaspoons powdered sugar

Preparation

Position oven rack to lowest position.
Preheat oven to 425°.
To prepare filling, combine first 6 ingredients in a large bowl, stirring with a whisk. Add pumpkin, and stir with a whisk until smooth.
To prepare crust, roll dough into an 11-inch circle; fit into a 9-inch pie plate coated with cooking spray. Fold edges under and flute.
Pour pumpkin mixture into the crust. Place pie plate on a baking sheet. Place baking sheet on lowest oven rack. Bake at 425° for 10 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350° (do not remove pie from oven); bake an additional 50 minutes or until almost set. Cool completely on wire rack.
To prepare topping, beat cream with a mixer at high speed until stiff peaks form. Add the amaretto and powdered sugar, and beat until blended. Serve with pie.

We have a wonderful new artist at Interiors Marketplace! Gaye is a Charlotte native growing up within walking distance of the Mint Museum of Art. She began her art training there as a child. She studied art and art history at St. Mary’s Jr. College in Raleigh and UNC-Chapel Hill. She has studied with many artists over the years including Sally Miller, Alice Williams from Atlanta, Andy Braitman but her mentor is Connie Winters who has taught her the most.

Gaye’s special eye for color and light fill her paintings with joy! She paints landscapes including marshes and water scenes, interiors, still life, children, adults, and her dog! Whatever speaks to her heart she puts on a canvas! Painting has been her passion for years. She paints Plein Air as well as from photographs sometimes combining several photos to get the right composition and color.

Today is the last regular market day of the season for Common Grounds Farm Stand! They are open from 8:30 - 1:30 and are located on the side porch of Interiors Marketplace! For those that are not familiar with Common Grounds, it is a farm stand where volunteers bring together local, organic and homemade items in order to raise money and awareness for Charlotte's Urban Ministry Center. They have amazing baked goods, fresh fruits and vegetables, flower arrangements and more.

Pillow designer, Jennifer Fadel of Bella Studios, uses silk screen techniques to print on linens from images both found and created in her studio. This unique collection will not to be reproduced in the exact manner again. She incorporates original embroidery work on some pillows and also maintains the signature Bella detail of hand tied knot trims. “Accessories are the flowers of a room, they can accentuate a season, an event or a lifestyle and should be fresh and engaging.”

Stephanie Joyce, Painter/Printmaker

[frame_right][/frame_right]Stephanie Joyce grew up along the Little River in Virginia. She was primarily influenced by her mother, an artist, and her father’s love of nature. Both fostered a deep rooted appreciation of the natural world. In contrast, Stephanie moved to New York City where she attended Parson’s School of Design and earned her BFA. Following studies abroad in Paris, she worked as a stylist’s assistant and later as a designer and colorist. After moving to North London, Stephanie began to focus on fine art. She set up a studio which overlooked rooftops and the Hampstead Heath and was intrigued by the misty, moody landscape of London and the English countryside. Her work began to take on an ethereal quality.

Stephanie now resides in Connecticut and lives on the Rippowam River which is a constant source of inspiration for her work. She is a guild member of Silvermine Guild Arts Center, and has exhibited at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking, Farum Gallery, Denmark, the Lockwood Matthews Museum, Carriage Barn Arts Center, Greenwich Arts Council, Artists Alliance of East Hampton, and New Century Artists Gallery, NY, NY.

Wendy Bilas, Painter

[frame_right][/frame_right]A native of Maryland, Wendy Bilas graduated with a BA from Duke and an MBA from Wake Forest’s Babcock School. Her formal art studies include training under nationally-acclaimed artist Andy Braitman, as well as workshops with impressionist Connie Winters and portrait artists Cedric and Jonette Egeli. In 2007, she was recognized as an Art with Heart Emerging Artist in North Carolina.

Wendy's love for the outdoors inspires landscapes in which she tries to capture the colors and light of nature as she sees it. While her subjects are always simple, she tries to use color, brushstrokes, and layering to create interest and complexity. Ultimately, it is the use of color that becomes the subject. She draws inspiration from classic impressionists, but it is her own sense of composition that gives her paintings the soulfulness to which she aspires.

Wendy works out of her home studio in Charlotte, NC, where she lives with her husband, ESPN basketball commentator Jay Bilas, and two children, Tori and Anthony.

We love this painted French table, and check out the detail on the legs! Wouldn't it make a great desk or little breakfast table? As for the rest of this classic scene (see full image below), the rustic patina works well with the crispness of the linen slip covered bench, and the vintage oil painting of the Asheville mountains pulls it all together just right. And then, if I could have a seat right there in the chair, with a cup of tea and a good book, I'd say we'd have a perfect little moment.
